Tsugaru Kanayama ware, which reflects the strong influence of Sue ware that existed in this region in ancient times, was first produced in 1985 when a climbing kiln was built in the Kaneyama district of Goshogawara City. Kanayama ware is known for its rustic and authentic touch created by baking good quality clay (obtained from the bottom of Kaneyama reservoir) at a temperature of 1,300oC by using red pine firewood without glazing. Visitors are able to learn how to make pottery using electric pottery wheels or by hand in the pottery workshop. Workshops for baking pizza and making straps are also available. Visitors can also enjoy coffee served in Kanayama ware cups at the coffee shop.
